I once had this issue with my G5, you depress the power button, one flash. no startup chime. Blank screen. and then the power LED flashes a few times. eventually the fans get really loud and sounds like a jet engine.

The amount of times the power LED flashes is a indicator for what is wrong with the G5:

1 flash: No RAM is installed or detected

2 flashes: Incompatible RAM types or RAM installed in wrong slots

3 flashes: No RAM banks passed memory testing

4 flashes: No good boot images are detected in the boot ROM (and/or there is a bad system config block)

5 flashes: The processor is not usable

This turned out to be very helpful after hours of taking apart the G5 and checking capacitors.

to anyone who has the same problem I had, I hope this helps them.

I had this same problem when I first got my G5. Easy fix.

The machine's robustness and user serviceability is stunning. Truly a fanominal piece of work this computer.
