I have a 2005 PowerMac that I loved. Ran OS X. However, it started freezing when I was doing "heavy" work (.xls spreadsheets, downloading, transferring music to iPod or updating iPod Classic) or just letting it set for awhile doing nothing - the fans would speed up to sound like a small (very small) jet engine.
I tried starting it again with the OS X disc to no avail. Would light up the display but freeze and fans speed up.
Have other more newer "stuff" so don't want to go to the expense of going to the apple store.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A "CURE" TO GET THIS FAVORITE RUNNING AGAIN?

A friend suggested "shocking" the PRAM...

Thanks

Any more information.

Is it water cooled or air cooled?

If air cooled, then I suspect a power supply fault (probably dodgy capacitors).

If water cooled, then it could be the above or a coolant leak.

If it's a coolant leak, then it's new mac time.
