The computer in my sig below has performed well, but it has now become victim of an increasingly annoying problem

Description: Upon entering any blank CD the drive will contemplate the CD (the laser is attempting to read it) and after about 8-10 seconds the drive will open back up.

Why won't it recognize blank CDs? Why does it just spit them back out in 10 seconds? This has become increasingly annoying because I haven't been able to burn CDs for weeks on this computer.

Someone else here had a similar problem. You machine should still be under warranty, have Apple take a look at it. Or just buy a new, faster drive and replace it. Yeah, I know, but places like Newegg have them cheap, and if you use PatchBurn, it will be fully compatible. Otherwise, AppleCare is your friend ;)

Problem not solved. The drive said that it "reached it's buffer" when buring the CDs. Now it won't recognize anything... :(
