Does anyone elses actually work? Have turned it on in system settings to update via battery and charger but whenever I open my Mac nothing has changed and it spends the next 5 mins updating Mail etc. Thought everything iCloud based was supposed to synchronise with the lid shut? Even my iMessage doesn't ever update, but that's pretty poor at being in sync with my phone anyway.

Really, 435 views and no answers? Wow.

Many of the users are sleeping when you posted, different time zones.

Refer to this support document on Power Nap. If you are experiencing issues with syncing, check to see if you have defined a static local IP address for the notebook, are you using an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule? Also check to see if the IP renew time is greater than 60 minutes on your base station and be sure that you are in range of the base station. If it's not a network issue, you might want to consider reinstalling Mountain Lion or taking it to your local Apple Store and having them do it for you.

How often does Power Nap check for updates or back up?
  • Mail and Notes (if running); Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Photo Stream, Find My Mac, and iCloud Documents are checked every hour.
  • Time Machine backups are attempted hourly until a successful backup has been completed.
  • Software Updates are checked daily.
  • Mac App Store downloads are checked once a week.

Important: Mail app and Notes app need to be running to receive updates during Power Nap.

Power Nap won't completely drain your battery

When your battery has 30% or less charge, Power Nap operations will be suspended until you connect a power adapter. Power Nap communicates and transfers data for a only a few minutes per Power Nap cycle when running on battery. When connected to a power adapter, communications and data transfers are continuous.

Thanks, didn't realise the apps had to be running for them to update. My mistake.
