I've read that PowerNap requires a flash based hard drive, so would it be possible to get it working with a Samsung 830 (or even Apple's SSD), or is Apple only issuing firmware for Air and Retina MacBooks?

as of right now, only '11+ air and retina's. I'm sure it'll be hacked to allow 3rd party ssd's and other machines soon enough.
