PowerPoint 2008 - setting defaults

I'd like to start a presentation, insert a text box --- set the font to 12 points and now "save this as my default" for all other text boxes that I create in this presentation.

In older versions there was a checkbox for a lot of things - if you changed the line style you could check "save this as my new default" etc...

Is this functionality gone?

Since we are on the defaults topic -- Is there a way to force the size of the startup window for a PPT file? When I launch PowerPoint resulting window takes up nearly my whole screen (24"!). I'd like to set a default size -- (this may be an OS X issue rather than a PowerPoint issue, not sure)
