As I mentioned awhile back, I'm planning to repurpose my 1 Ghz iBook G4 as an OwnCloud server. Today, I finally ordered the Firewire RAID enclosure I plan to use for the storage, so I'm looking to move forward with the project.

As a proof of concept, I previously got OwnCloud server working on a Debian 8 install on the same computer, but I started wondering whether Debian 8 or OSX Tiger (or perhaps even Leopard?) would be the best fit for the project.

Any ideas which will offer better performance? I would guess Tiger, but possibly not by much?
Will large disk and/or RAID hardware support be better in one or the other?

Of course this all depends on whether I could even get OwnCloud working on OSX, but I don't see why that would be too much of a problem, since it is essentially just a PHP app, so having Apache, PHP, MySQL, and some other related extensions installed were the only prerequisites.

Also, for anyone interested, this is the RAID enclosure I went with:

I ordered a pair of refurbished Hitachi 4TB drives which I intend to set up in RAID 1 for maximum data integrity.

Given that this will be a cloud server and likely accessible to the internet, do you really feel comfortable trusting the security of your files to an operating system that hasn't seen a security patch in more than 10 years? I'd definitely steer clear of Tiger or any version of OS X for this.
