Why can't mac open a pps attachment ? I read that I need a download to see what my friend is sending me . Why . Is this just one of those : thats the way it is things ? I was hoping to make readable changes using my mac . Any thought's here ?

Because you don't have PowerPoint installed? Just like if you were running Windows without PowerPoint installed (it's not built into Windows either you know).
You can get viewers for pps files for the Mac. Search on google for 'powerpoint pps mac'. The viewers don't provide for re-writing the file though.
