Pre-2016 speakers better than 2016/17 speakers

I have a 2016 MBP 13” non Touch bar. The speakers are great compared to my 5 year old windows laptop. My friend brought her pre-2016 MBP 13” and played a song from her laptop. I was quite shocked as it sounded a lot ‘fuller’ than from my 2016 MBP, and just as loud. In fact I’d say I prefer the sound from her older MBP. I assume it’s because the older designs are thicker and therefore produce a more ‘bassy’ sound. Perhaps the 2016/17 models are technically better, but I don’t notice that.

Has anyone else noticed this?
