iOS 7 icon are not unanimously regarged as gorgeous, but I'd like to dedicate this thread to pre-iOS 7 ugliness.
My first contribution would be the Pages icon.
It's ugly in every way. First of all, the icon doesn't make any sense. It shows ink and a pen. Very familiar... to monks living the 1500s. People have used computers for their documents since 1980. I get skeuomorphism, but this is way worse than stitched leather. This is just plain stupid.
First of all, the icon is ugly. It's all kinds of different blue every where, which makes it crowded and unpleasing to the eyes. The main function of an icon, instant recognizability, is not fulfilled.
Furthermore, the number of glossy/gradient effects is too damn high. Let's count. We have the gradient background (1), the glossy background (2), the beveled edges (3), the ink (4), the ink glass (4), the pen (5) and the drop shadow underneath the glass (6). This has gone too far.
To be honoust, I do like iOS 6 and its icons a lot, but this is just bad.
Feel free to contribute to this thread, but please do so with an example and a short explanation of why you think it deserves to be mentioned.
