Pre-order and pick up at an Apple store in another state?

I plan on pre-ordering tonight with the rest of you like I have every year but have a question.

This time around I plan on pre-ordering it online through Apple but I would like to pick it up at a store in another state (I'll be in CA at the time of release). Has anybody done this and if so, any issues with doing this?

I have seen some international folks asking but this is a US AT&T customer upgrading via Next.

I'm not sure if you can pick it up at any store actually. Preview years, it's been a delivery option only.

If you want to pick up, I think you'll likely have to do that at midnight the day of (release day).
