Pre-order to pick up at Apple Store

I plan on pre-ordering on Tuesday to pick up the new iPhone at my local Apple store. I'm assuming some people around here did that for the iPad or past iPhones.

Will the website let me know if it will be available on launch day the 24th, or do I just need to order one for pickup and hope for the best?
