Pre-Ordering from Apple vs Carrier?

I've done a bit of searching, and after weeding through dozens of pre-order questions, i could not find the answer...

Question #1: If i have a Verizon wireless account with multiple lines, and have upgrade eligibility on my wifes phone, does it matter if i use her upgrade for me?

Question#2: Which is generally the "better" way to go when preordering? Directly through apple, or through Verizon? If i would prefer for the phone to be shipped to my home, which method is faster?

Verizon will deliver faster based on previous launch. You can use your wife's upgrade. No problem.

I ordered my AT&T iPhone 4 last summer from Apple.com with no issues. I might do that again, but likely I'll have both Apple.com and AT&T's website open.
