I live in the UK, but will be overseas (in China) on the day pre ordering opens. I'll be back in the UK by the first possible delivery date. Will there be any issues trying to set up a UK order from China? I'm sure others have been in this situation before, so I'd love to know if there were problems or if it went smoothly.

No. Apple does not geo-restrict access to the store.

The only restriction is payment method. As long as you pre-order with at UK card, you are right.

You don't even need a UK card. I bought from both the UK and US store, and had it shipped to my mail boxes in each respective country. My credit card is issued in Kuwait.

The Australian store did not allow me to use a UK card when I was there. Online

You could always use a VPN to change your location.
