I have heard mixed things regarding what the Apple.com pre-ordering will let do for shipping a new iPhone when you have an AT&T account. From people who have pre-ordered in the past, are you only allowed to ship to your AT&T account billing address or will Apple.com let you ship to any address you want? The reason I am asking is I am wanting to ship to my office on the 21st and not my house.

I'm curious about this. My family (who has me on their family plan) lives in a different city than me, I just recently moved. Would I be able to ship the phone to my current address or would I have to have my family ship it out to me since the billing address is in a different city? Any insight would be appreciated :)

AT&T billing address only. I just temporally change mine for the launch and go online to switch it back as soon as the phone is delivered.

Does this effect anything? Don't want to mess up my fam's account (I'm in a different state)

A few people in a different thread seem to think you can get it shipped to a different address during the preorder process.

I ordered the 4 from Apple on an existing AT&T account and had no problem getting it shipped to my work address (not my billing address). I could not order directly from AT&T, however.

Thanks, it seems like it is possible from what people are saying. We'll find out soon enough on Friday

Yeah I think you can. I did a test buy on apple.com and it allows you to put your address in.

But did you actually complete the order? I don't think just inputting the address is going to verify anything.

It very well may be fine--I just recall lots of people having problems last launch. My thought is changing your address to match will definitely work however if the system doesn't let you ship to an alternate address on Friday, it's going to be next to impossible to get through to AT&T either online or on the phone to change it.

Last year people were contacting Apple support requesting to change the shipping address. As long as you change it before it's "loaded up" they'll do it.

I just chatted with an Apple rep on Apple.com, and he said the shipping address MUST match the address where your AT&T bill is sent every month. This is for verification purposes. I asked if there was any way to get around this by using Express Checkout, and he said that Express Checkout won't be available for iPhone 5 pre-orders (everyone will have to go through the full checkout process).

He also said that you can get around the whole billing address/shipping address problem by changing your billing address on your AT&T account to match the address where you want the iPhone shipped. After the order is processed, which he said would be within an hour of successfully placing the order, you can change your billing address back without any negative consequences.

I live away from my family, and for the last two years have ordered through Apple and then was able to switch the address with them prior to shipping. Two years ago, I did it online...I think last year I had to call Apple? I hope one or the other works this year!

Shipping address can be Different

Directly from Apple Support;
The iPhone model can definitely be shipped to you directly, though to apply it to the family plan, it would have to be applied within an Apple retail store or through your carrier directly.

Me;
So basically I can order it online and have it shipped to my address regardless of the billing address associated with the number. I'm not worried about the family plan. Just wanted to confirm that I can have the phone shipped directly to me.

Apple;
No worries in that case as it can definitley be shipped to you without a problem!

Changed it just to be safe. Would hate to have them shipped to Florida when we're in Colorado :eek:

Hope this is true, as I'm kind of in weird situation. I plan to pre-order the 5 through Apple when it goes live on the 14th but I'll be traveling to the Bay Area on the 15th for a family reunion/vacation and will be there for 2 weeks. So I hope they'll ship to me down there and not charge me sales tax since my billing address is in Oregon.

I ordered from AT&T's site and had it shipped to my work before. Not my home billing adress.
But it was the AT&T premier site cause of my FAN account. Not sure about the regural AT&T store or if its different.

So it seems like there is two options:

1. Change your billing address temporarily
2. Order then call apple shortly after to get them to change the shipping address

Concur?

Also, I've never ordered online before, is there any service questions involved or can I just click "keep everything the same"? :D

This seems to be the case... I can say that I bought my 3GS in NY but I live in Philadelphia. My billing address was always set to NY, even though my CC and bank, etc. are in Philadelphia. I'm changing it to my work address for iPhone 5. It seems that the billing address is not used for much of anything, although that may be because I have wireless billing. Hope that helps.
