Pre-unibody MacBook case cracking and burning?

I've got a MacBook that I bought about a year ago along with the 3-year AppleCare plan. Yesterday I was taking my MacBook somewhere (first time in a while since I have it connected to an external) and noticed some cracks and some discolouration on the bottom case along the top.

Cracks
Burning? This is kind of hard to see, but along the back the plastic is turning grey/black.

Is this a common problem with MacBooks? And would Apple do anything about it?
