There are only a few potential problems I imagine we will see with the new iPad after release.
1. Light bleed: With twice the amount of led lights needed for backlighting due to the high pixel density, there is increased chance of light bleed.
2. Heat: The new iPad is using 4x the amount of energy compared to the iPad 2 with no change in processor nm size. In fact, with the increase in the number of processors for the graphics chip and the resulting increased power draw, there is a significant increase in heat output. Combined with the battery taking up much of the space between the shell of the iPad and the board& screen the battery is likely to block heat dissipation leading to a build up in heat. Playing games for extended periods of time could create heat problems. As everyone knows, there are no fans in the iPad to help dissipate heat and the only way to let out heat is through the shell.
3. Dead pixels: With the highly sophisticated pixel dense displays, there is a higher chance of having a dead pixel here or there. Hopefully this won't be an issue.
4. Inconsistency between screen vendor: There are 3 companies producing screens for the new iPad as reported by cnet. Sharp, Samsung, and LG. Each of these companies has their own method of making the displays and varying levels of technology. Sharp is said to be using a fab 8 plant which is supposedly the most advanced technology currently available. This could potentially turn into a macbook air situation where one vendor is considered better than the others.
5. Yellow screen: This is caused by the glue not having completely dried and is not something to be concerned about because it should go away in a few days. If it has been several weeks and your screen is still yellow then you should probably take it to the nearest Apple store.
I am not in any way intending to bad mouth the iPad. I am getting one on friday as well. I am just bringing this topic up for conversation and considerations on things to look out for when you get your new iPad. Please feel free to add anything else.
