By February or by Q4 of 2021?

I have a 16GB Mini on order but not a day goes by where I think about canceling it in hopes that a refreshed Mini Pro is in the wings.

Any thoughts?

I guess it depends on the "Pro" concept.

If it's a new form factor, with some modular design, possibly even a slot or two, I'd suspect that will be in the development pipeline a good bit longer.

If it's the current Mini FF (which we've seen has a lot of available space with the M1) , but with an M1X/M2, and the port and memory allowance for that SOC (assuming 4-6 ports, 16-32, maybe 64GB of RAM), i.e., an M based MBP 16inch-in-a-box, then I think much earlier in '21, maybe late Q1/early Q2.

As I'm sure you've read, there's speculation about a Pro Mini, but also a Mini Pro, which may or may not be the same product concept. :D

If the possibility of a refresh of the current Intel Mini Pro is heading for a late Q1/Q2 release then I think I should cancel my order for the new ARM Mini just released.

Holy smokes, I wouldn't do anything based on what I posted :D

I would expect a new M1 Mini to retain some decent value in the used market, so if you're really in need of a new machine, I'd roll the dice that you're not going to see a higher end spec in the next 4-5 months, that's quite a bit of use time. Maybe consider a lower cost machine too, if you really need one, like an 8GB/256GB Mini, I see them on B&H for $649. If you use that for 6 months, sell it for $500, that's a cheap "rental".

No, I am not in need of a new computer. That's the thing.

I have 2019 16" MBP with 64GB of ram. It serves nicely both on my lap and desktop.

I am just looking for a desktop replacement -- eventually --- so I don't have to keep switching my 16" around.

16GB of Ram is not going to cut it for me. I push 32GB of ram on a daily basis and that's for open apps that run in the background.

So, I am putting some faith that we are only 3-4 months away from a refresh on the Intel Mini.

I kind of came here to gauge opinions as to whether that is confident speculation.

Don't even bother, enjoy your M1 mac mini. "If" something like the mac mini pro comes into existence, they will wait until the end of their M silicone roll-out (2-3 years) so it would not jeopardize their profits on the mac mini or even the current intel mac pro.

Apple is driven by money and not technology or to get the latest out there. They are way head of the market, so they can take their time and rake in the money. They probably have M4's already completed and will milk everyone in upgrades for the next years to come.

Apple hit it out of the ball park on the M silicone.

Frankly, the mini is so low and forgotten product that I don't think Apple will update the M1 Mac mini for another 2 years. They purposely started out with the lower-tier product line as proof of concept.

This is really to get developers onboard and update their apps.
The focus will then be on higher margin products like the iMac, MacBook Pro, and the Mac Pro.
