Preferences Got Messed Up

My Macbook Pro (specs here):



has been having issues keeping a hard drive connected and was having same issues this morning when I noticed my menu bar was almost completely WHITE. I tried restarting the computer and it got down to the spinning circle where it just hung there.

I forced it to quit by holding down the power button, gave it a couple minutes and then powered it back up.

Upon powering it back up my preferences are kind of off.

For instance, My trackpad action is the opposite of how I had it set, Safari opens to yahoo.com instead of the pages that were open on my last session, and I'm guessing there's other preferences that are off that I just haven't uncovered yet.

Any idea what's going on?

The Safari opening to Yahoo sounds like malware. Download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Ran that program and it found some adware but no malware. Thanks for suggestion!

I misspoke, the adware is what caused your problem with Yahoo. Have you tried a normal restart to see if that works yet?
