Preferences/settings file for each application

I want to take backup (copy in other folder) of the preference files of some of my favorites applications.

I want to know where are stored all the settings I make in each application.

In case something is lost, just paste the appropriate file again and have my settings back.
Where these files lie for each application?

~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Application Support should have most of it. Mail files are in ~/Library/Mail.
