Preferred keyboard mode?

I have the iPad Air 2. Although I love the device, I cannot decide between the merged or split keyboards. I seem to be able to type faster on the split keyboard but I like that the merged keyboard offers more in the way of typing predictions.

Opinions?

I switch between the two depending on how I am using it. I almost always split the keyboard when I am holding the iPad and merge it when the iPad is resting on a surface.

Very good advice, I'm going to try to get into the habit of doing this. Thank you
