Is there a possibility of preloaded maps, either from Google or from another developer? It would be nice to have maps without having to have a wireless connection. Would the file size be so huge it wouldn't be practical?

Well, if you are ambitious - and this really should not take long at all - you could just make the maps at any mapping service online (like maps.google.com), save them as a jpg or gif on your computer, edit as necessary and then load them to your Photos on your Touch.

An application like 'air sharing' allows you to move .pdf files to the iPod Touch/phone, so you could use that for maps. I use it for bus schedules, which are available as .pdf files.
