Just got email saying the preorder has shipped but not due to arrive until the 28th. Have a flight out on the 27th. IDK what to do?

What do you mean you don't know what to do? You wait for your phone to be delivered, not sure what's hard about that.

He has a flight out on the 27th meaning he's not going to be around to receive it.

I suggest you call the carrier to see how long they'll hold it for you or see if a neighbor can sign for you

I was in the same boat (plane). My wife's was scheduled for Oct 2, then yesterday at noon it was changed to Oct 5. I will be in Boston on that day.

Just cancel the order. It took two hours to clear and my local AT&T sold me a 32 gig. Waiting is over. I doubt I will pre order next time.
