Preorder upgrade with another lines upgrade

So my AT&T account has 4 lines. 3 of which are iPhones and 1 is just a regular phone. Only 2 of the iPhones lines are eligible for upgrade.

I went in to AT&T today and asked if I could upgrade the non eligible iPhone line using the dumb phone line and they said I could.

I asked them how I would do that if I wanted to preorder and they didn't seem to know so now I come to MacRumors... Sorry if this has been asked before.

So how would I go about placing my pre-order using another lines upgrade without having to switch phone numbers?

Just preorder using that line and call att when you get the phone. They will fix it..It's called a cross-upgrade.

i'm doing the same.

what you would do is pre-order the phone with the dummy line, and when you get the phone, don't activate it yet, call ATT or go into their store, and let them know you want to activate the iPhone 4S on your line and tell them to cancel the data plan. they'll be swapping IMEIs on the phones
