preorder won't get here in time, can I wait in line?

Without going into the long details, I'm not very hopeful my iPhone 6+ will get here on Friday. I ordered from AT&T, and I know the dates my change still, but assuming I don't get a shipping notice tomorrow, can I go wait in line at Apple and still upgrade my lines? Or will they deny me since I have a pending preorder?
