Preordered 4S AT&T , but want Verizon

Hi, I am currently a 3GS owner on at&t. Preordered the 4s and it will arrive today. I think when I preordered, is it tied to AT&T? My new workplace has no AT&T coverage I just found this out. I need to switch to verizon. Please help me understand the process. When I preordered, did I commit to AT&T??

You sure did, so do NOT OPEN THE PHONE. There might be some clause to let you out.

How about calling ATT and asking them?

You should be able to return the phone within 30 days and get a refund as well as get out of your contract. If you return it within 3 days I think they even waive the activation fee. If I were you, I wouldn't even open the box and just send it back to them. Don't activate it.

I think I am going to pick up a 4S and "test drive" it on ATT to see if it works better than my 3GS in a few areas where service sucks. If not, it's going back and I'm off to Sprint or Verizon.
