I just ordered the 4gb iPhone for $299 (the special offer was just too good to refuse, or at least that's how I'm justifying the purchase) and now I'm looking to get everything ready for its arrival tomorrow. I was going to buy some ringtones tonight, but it doesn't appear to be working. This may be a completely ridiculous question, but do I have to have activated the iPhone in order to create ringtones in iTunes?

Also, is there anything else I can do today on my computer to get my iPhone all synced up and ready tomorrow?

I think you ll need to have to phone activated before you can buy ringtones from the itnues store.

Just a suggestion; you can buy iToner for $15 and make all the ring tones you want out of whatever you want without having to give Apple .99 per tone. It's REALLY easy to use and you do not have to hack your phone. You can download Audacity for free and use that to cut up the part yuou want. Again a very easy app to use.
