Preparing for shipment

After 2 weeks wait it just changed on the apple store to "preparing for shipment".

My question is, how long does it stay on this status before its despatched?

Going away next week and was hoping to have it on monday

Not a chance.

It will stay on that status for 8-18 hours, then will take 4-7 days to deliver.
 
Next time, give Apple a call and request to be upgraded to expedited shipping. They'll usually do it for free according to many posts on these forums.

They were only doing that for people who ordered in the first batch when it was 4-5 weeks as a "sorry for waiting" gesture.

That is not true. I called in a couple days ago and said that I needed to have this a bit faster and if there was anyway they could expedite the shipping for me.

They went ahead and changed the shipping to the faster one for free which shaved off about 3 days from estimated arrival time.

If my order is "preparing for shipment" could I still call? It's been like this for over 24 hrs now and I'm just wondering how long it usually takes..
 
I ordered mine when shipping time was 1-2 weeks on July 31. I received it August 6 due to shipping time improving. Tracking said I was to receive it August 9th though so I was REAL happy to get it earlier.

This thing is just amazing. So damn fast!

When I spoke with Apple they told me 'Preparing for Shipment' means that it's built, boxed, ready and waiting to be picked up by the carrier. They also said it's too late to modify the shipping at that point.

is it woth the extra 100 dollars for the 2.6 oevr the 2.3?

Worth is subjective. Are your needs met by the 2.3GHz processor? Do you need to spend that $100 elsewhere where spending it on the computer would cause issues (i.e.: paying bills, etc.)?

The 2.6GHz processor will certainly be faster, but it's probably unnoticeable to most users.

what justified your choice in this case?
