preparing iPhone for selling it

So, I was an idiot and sold my 3G while being optimistic that the new iPhone 4 would be available for purchase before the day thatI have to ship it. I get that I have to restore it to factory settings before shipping it out so the buyer won't have my info. I don't really get how I will be able to get my apps & info from my current iPhone onto my next one since I won't have them at the same time. Will doing a sync to iTunes right before restoring it do the trick or is there something else I should do, too?

No. You just sync everything back thru iTunes on the new phone.
