I'm selling my Macbook Pro and would like to change the user name to something generic like MBP and erase all my personal files but keep installed applications for the buyer. I'd prefer to not go through the hassle of erasing everything and doing a re-install of all OS and applications.

How do I do this?

It's easy to change the user name, but the login home directory name still has my name. Can I change this? Is doing a 'mv' of the home directory to a new name safe?

Which files do I have to erase that keep personal info? Obviously everything in the home directory. Though maybe I have to keep the Pictures and Music folders?

Empty the trash of course.

Is my undertaking realistic or should I go through a complete re-install?
