preparing to replace hdd with ssd

Background: i have an early 2011 13" mbp and i'm replacing the stock hdd with an ssd. i've never had a problem with my OS crashing so i'm just going to use time machine.

my question: once i physically install the ssd how do i restore my backup from time machine (on my external hd)?

Just format your new HDD and put it into an enclosure for 2.5" S-ATA HDDs and connect it to your Mac via USB (such enclosure should cost around 10 €) and then clone the old HDD to the new HDD via CarbonCopyCloner and then switch the HDDs.
