iPhone Preserving Baseband for iPhone 4

Hi, this maybe an old question. I wanted to update my iPhone 4 from iOS 5 to 7. I preserved the original baseband so the phone can be unlocked. Just curious if I update to iOS 7, is there anyone to preserve the baseband in case there's JB available later.

If I can preserve, then my iPhone 4 will be turned back to locked mode? Is there anyone then to unlock it to be used internationally? Thanks very much :)

there's currently no way to update to iOS 7 while also preserving baseband as far as I'm aware of
 
Preserving baseband is kind of outdated afaik; I don't even think ultrasn0w is available on iOS7 (let alone iOS6).

This is because grey market unlocking has become so easily accessible and cheap, that its not really worth the dev's time to develop solutions for software unlocks anymore. Moreover, there are so many wireless providers now vs. before when it was only AT&T.

Lastly, AT&T themselves and other main providers will unlock your phone after a designated amount of time if you request it, so again not really much need for BB preserve and software unlocks, as both the above methods are permanent unlocks.

Your information is outdated, ultrasn0w works fine on iOS 6

No Jailbreak for iOS 7 and no woking Cydia on iOS 7.

The sources for an IMEI unlock dried up after the 5C/S release to basically only a very expensive IMEI unlock is available only and few and far between.
 
Thanks very much. Yes I was going to pay $20 to $40 to unlock but with AT&T closing down on unlock, I can't pay to unlock anymore.

At the same time, iPhone 4 has been more than 2 years old, will AT&T unlock for me for free or basically AT&T closed down the unlock department so no more unlock in future (even if one qualifies?)

In that case, I guess it will more safe for me to update to iOS 6 as I still have my 6.1.3 shsh saved and my old baseband preserved. But when I use redsn0w to load 6.1.3, it can't find my shsh, is there anyway I can tell tinyumbrella to unload my shsh to cydia so redsn0w can look up the shsh and restore?

Offcial unlocks from AT&T are still availbale if you fulfill all the requirements.

The greymarket IMEI unlocks are drying up.

Use redsn0w to upload your TU saved SHSH's
6.1.3 will be a tethered JB though

Yep, get the free AT&T unlock, much better than software unlock.
 
Guys i hav iphone 4 n its gevey unlocked..
its firmware is 04.10.1 ios 4.3.3 running..

so i was thinking to update the phone preserving the baseband..
so jst wanted to know if gevey unlock still works wen i update the phone..and plz suggest which ios shuld i update to.. i mean shuld i directly update to ios 7.1.2 or ios 6 or ios 5.1.3 ..

You cannot update it and preserve the baseband.
There is no program at the moment that will do that.
What carrier is your iphone 4 locked to?
Maybe you can ask for an official unlock and get rid of that junk gevey adapter.
 
its..japan carrier..softbank..n official unlock is too much expensive..
anywayz..i created custom ipsw with snowbreeze.. n tried to update via itunes..bt it gets me 3194 error.. n i tried redsnow..bt it says...that shsh r nt found in remote server..i too used tinyumbrella.. n as per it..there r shsh is for either 7.1.2 and 6.0.1 so..

does that conclude that i hav to download the ipsw of 7.1.2 ??

You need blobs.
What full shsh blobs you have you can only restore to one of those.
Use TU and see what shsh blobs you have available.

i used tinyumbrella.. it showed that 6.0.1 blobs and 7.1.2 blobs are available fr iphone 4 ...
So Wuld it be possible to create custom ipsw with it..n restoring.???? Its jst gevey unlocked..n i jst want to update to any version.. preserving baseband.. Help me to do.. :)

I know snowbreeze will let you create a custom ipsw but that will let you only go up to 6.0.1
It hasnt been updated to work with ios 7 yet.
Redsnow might let you create a custom .ipsw for ios 7.1.2 but not 100%.
