Preserving Live Photos in an archive?

Hi all,

I'm curious to hear your backup/archive workflow when it comes to saving Live Photos.

I want to offload a bunch of photos on my iPhone to a hard disk backup. Some of these photos are Live photos. If I just drag and drop Live photos from the iPhone to my computer desktop, the resulting photo no longer appears to be a live photo (just a still).

Should I first do all of my downloading through Apple Photos, and then from there will those Live photos backup successfully to an archived drive.

I do use Google Photos on my iPhone for backups as well, and Google Photos appears to keep the live photo intact.

Thanks for any advice
