I used to be able to hold the volume button down on my iPad 4 and after a second it would instantly go all the way down. since The replacement iPad i recently got from the Apple does not behave like this. I looked in the settings menu but couldn't see any option to set this. Am I missing something here? Thank you!

Yes. You have to turn on a completely unrelated setting to enable this feature.

Change the switch on the side from 'mute' to 'lock screen rotation'.

It's already on 'lock screen rotation'... :'(

Goto settings-->sounds-->change with buttons-->on

Or you could read the ipad manual downloaded thru ibooks.

So simple even a caveman can do it!

This doesn't fix the problem. This setting is for reducing the volume of audio/video and alerts at the same time. What I'm talking about is: keep volume button pressed down, after 1 second it goes all the way down instantly instead of gradually.
