Have my first m4 MacBook Pro and decided against overpaying for their built-in storage. So I have (primarily) my Lightroom catalog+photos on a Thunderbolt drive. All is just fine this way, most of the time.

I notice I feel less easy about the setup in actual lap mode on the touch, or sitting outside on my patio chair (no table). The Thunderbolt cable itself isn’t long, and I just worry about bumping the cable or the drive and having some disconnect during usage.

Is there a right angle Thunderbolt cable so at least it’s not protruding as much? Some way to temporarily physically “attach” the drive to my MacBook?

Nothing has ever actually happened, but I just worry about it and it feels awkward in the process. It makes it very difficult to use it casually in this setup.

I’ve seen pictures of people taking the drive and using double-sided tape or Velcro to attach it to the lid. That might get part of it out of the way, but it’s still not going to make it fool proof.

Nothing beats internal storage, but if you’re on a budget, then there’s compromises.

Now you understand why folks pay extra for more internal storage...
