prevent iTunes from launching (bluetooth headset)

I have a Jaybird bluetooth headset paired with my MacBook Pro running 10.9 Mavericks. The first time any sound plays on the computer (even setting volume up/down) iTunes launches automatically. I do not want this to happen. Any ideas how to prevent this from launching automatically?

You probably just need to remove iTunes helper from the login items.
