Is there any way to prevent macOS on my M1 iMac from waking up when the mouse is moved?

This is a Logitech G703 wireless USB mouse so not Bluetooth. I'm using the Apple Magic keyboard that came with it if that's helpful information.

I've Googled this and the only "solutions" people came up with were unplugging and plugging in the mouse every time you use the computer (Yeah no, not on an iMac) and flipping the mouse over (Maybe). I just finished with this on my Windows PC and it was a PITA sorting through multiple entries in the device manager. I figured Apple would make this much easier but I can't find anything in settings.

Maybe turn the mouse off. Set the mouse out of the way where it won’t get moved. If you don’t want the Mac on why not shut it down? Use the hot corners to turn off the display, if it accidentally wakes just move the pointer to the hot corner.

Shutting down the iMac every time I finish using it then having to power it back on and enter the password would be almost as much as a PITA as unplugging it every time. I didn’t think about turning off the mouse but that might work. I’m just surprised this isn’t a setting. I was hoping I overlooked some hidden setting.

I don't let my iMac sleep, I just have the display turn off if idle for 30 minutes. The M1 iMac power usage is very small when the display is off. Currently attached to our UPS are my M1 iMac and my wife's 27"iMac and a dormant ScanSnap. Power usage is varying between 40 and 50 VA. It costs me about $4 a month to keep the machines running all the time.

Currently using a trackpad instead of the mouse so it's rare that it gets triggered accidentally.

And I (and many others) am surprised that you were surprised this isn't a setting. Moving the mouse to wake a computer is the common practice of 99% users.

This reminds me of people who said “you’re holding it wrong” when it came to antennagate. 😂😂😂

I thought about getting a trackpad. It would work fine for most of what I do on the iMac
