Preventing Exchange contact lookup

I have 3 email accounts configured in my 3GS. One Yahoo, one google apps, and one regular gmail.

I also have an Exchange calendar configured, but not for email. The contacts button is set to "off" in the calendar settings.

Yet when I'm composing a new email (no matter which account) and start typing a contact's name, an automatic search begins, and it includes Exchange contacts. These Exchange contacts are not physically on my iPhone.

Is there any way to prevent the mail app from searching Exchange contacts?
