Hello,

Have an iPhone 6S

Just bought a new iMac desktop pc.

Using Apple's MAIL App for my eMails on the pc, as well as reading eMails on my iPhone.

Was absolutely amazed to see that when I deleted an eMail on my iPhone, it also
deleted it, automatically, on the iMac.

Wow !
Was wondering why so many never seemed to make it to the MAIL APP on the iMac.

I read my eMails on either, or both devices.

How can I prevent this from happening ?

If I delete an eMail on either the iPhone or iMac, I want the other device to still
have the eMail until I decide to delete it manually.

Thanks,
Bob

This behaviour actually depends on the mail service you use. You're clearly using an IMAP service, as a pop3 account wouldn't do this.

I'm not quite sure if the following works, but if you go to Preferences in the Mail app, go to accounts, pick your account(s), and select behaviour. If you select the option for where trash goes, instead of setting it to go to your account's trash bin, set it to go to your Mac's trash bin (most bottom option). Same for your iDevice. Now the devices, when trashed, should only be deleted locally, and not server side. This will however have the side effect that, let's say you're using Gmail. If you go to Gmail.com, your messages will still be in your inbox

It also depends on your ISP. For example: Gmail IMAP will keep deleted messages for 30 days by default unless you remove them sooner. I have both IMAP and POP3 accounts setup so that when I use POP3 I can download and view mail on all my devices and trashing them on one does not trash them on the others.
