It seems the latest OS update may have introduced some bugs into the app Preview. I used to be able to rename and move a pdf with just a mouse click or two. Now when I rename a file and move it to the desired location the name goes back to the original name. I have also noticed if you want to move a pdf and you choose one of the locations in the "Where:" drop down, it doesn't move the file at all.

Anyone else notice this?

With macOS 15.3, the "where" drop down moves and renames files for me. "a mouse click or two" - can you be more precise?

When I open a pdf in Preview and hold the pointer over the document title and click on the v I used to be able to change the name of the document and move the file to a different location by clicking on the "Where:" menu. Clicking on the "Where:" menu brings up a list of "recent places" that you can move the file to. This no longer works. The file doesn't move to the location you select. I also can not rename the file and move the file to another location at the same time.

Thanks for the precise description. Doing that works fine for me including moving and renaming together. So I don't think this is a general issue.

Might be file or folder permissions. Not saying it is, but that is something to check. You need write permissions to the file and to its initial and final folders.

That's interesting. The issue is both my laptop and my wife laptop and it didn't occur until after we updated to the latest OS Sequoia 15.3.

Same here.
Interestingly, the recent places didn't work for me until the last update. This seems to be working again.
But only if I click on File Save and then select the recent pace.

I am having the same issue and it is messing up my productivity system. I hope it get resolved soon. I am glad I am not the only one dealing with this issue, started to think I was crazy.

May I suggest to simply use the normal Cmd-Opt-S command to save your file under the desired name in the desired location. That "edit name in the window title" thingie has always been a half-baked concoction with buggy functionality.

I am having this problem as well, as OP describes it post #3.

It's not a permissions issue - I can drag the file to desired location and rename it in finder. It just the actions can't be done through the file name at the top of the document bar.

You don't need to drag anything in the Finder. Like I already mentioned, you can use the regular Cmd-Opt-S (Save As) command to achieve the same. The "edit name in the window title" is a bizarre artifact that most users will never find out even exists anyway, as that "v" sign only appears if the user accidentally moves the mouse to a very limited area of the file name in the title bar.

Yes, thanks for the alternative.

Doesn't make this not a bug though (I've reported)

Was really bothered by this issue, just installed Sequoia 15.4 and the issue seems resolved.
