After getting a new MBP, upgrading to Mountain Lion and migrating my user account.... (I.e. issue did not exist running Snow Leopard on previous MBP).
I'm making an eps file (call it 'file.eps') from the command line. I open it simply with "open file.eps" -- which then opens it in preview (converted to PDF).
I then modify file.eps, and open it again (without closing the previous version), and Preview will hang, requiring a force-quit. It takes anywhere from 2-5 copies of file.eps open for Preview to hang.
If I close previous copies before opening the next one, it never hangs.
