Preview PDF/ Text Selection Highlighting Doesn't Work

Hi there

When I open text or PDF's in Preview and want to select text there's nothing happening. It does select the text and I can copy, edit and do stuff but what I'm missing is the "highlighting selection" when I drag the cursor over a text and want to see what and how much of the text I selected.

Anyone know what is the culprit of this and how to fix?
