Preview problem

In ML, regardless of what I want to view, Preview ALWAYS displays an item I viewed weeks ago. I have to close it and reopen the one I want 2 or 3 times to get it to work.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I am new to Mac, 1 week of Mac use, 30 years of Micro$oft use......but this is really nice.

In System Preferences --> General try checking the box "Close windows when quitting an application" and see if that helps.
