Preview won't open PDF because it cannot check for malware, how to handle?

We regularly get bank statements in PDF. When I tried to open such a PDF this morning I got an error saying the PDF won't be opened because Preview can't check if there's malware in it. I've never seen this before. Might have to do that I just bought a new Mac and therefore also upgraded to the latest MacOS.

How do I solve this? Should I install a PDF viewer?

EDIT: nevermind, after I rebooted my Mac the problem disappeared
