What I don't understand is why the larger version is dearer than the smaller version. There cannot be that much difference in material costs. It's a sort of male discrimination.
 
Gender as nothing to do with it, because males will be buying the smaller version.

Apple is charging what they are charging because they can, simple as that.
 
Yes, that is the obvious answer, but still, why? They do not need to, and I guess that the larger one will be bought mainly by males.

The cost difference isn't huge and there is a cost increase regarding materials, i.e., larger crystal, costs more to create then a smaller one, a tad more aluminum/stainless steel. Overall though, they charge more because they can. They're no different then any other company, and they feel that that a more expensive 42mm fits into their business model more then not charging more.
