Hello I'm new here and going to be getting back into Macintosh computers I would like to know if a $100 is a fair price for me to pay for a g4 mdd with dual 1.0 GHz processor and 1 gig of RAM

Depends on your intended usage.

If you are a collector or you specifically need to run old software. It is a good price. Looking at eBay sales history.

For a practical computer for modern web usage. It is a horrible price at any price.

If everything important is working on there (RAM slots, both CPUs running well, fans aren’t sticking, power supply is good, and so on) and you’re also willing to apply a bit of elbow grease to clean out old dust on the inside for years of future use, then you should get a lot of value from it at that price — especially if you’re planning to run OS 9 (either from boot or in Classic mode) for Mac OS-only games and utilities.

You’ll be able to run not only OS 9.2.2, but also OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) and 10.5.8 (Leopard). The pics you posted show it’s running the final version of Panther (10.3.9) — which is good, but if you’re planning to go online, your options generally open up from Tiger onward.

Mirror-drive-door G4s are sort of at the end of that curve when longtime owners are selling them second-hand, giving them away, or taking them to recyclers to free up more room at home, and are probably about to enter that stage when nostalgic collectors begin to pick them up at steadily increasing collectible prices. You miiight be able to find one for cheaper locally (these are heavy and the polycarbonate cases don’t tend to ship very well unless they’re in their original OEM box with styrofoan inserts), but it could also be a while before another one nearby pops up for less.

Hopefully this helps with your decision!

$100 is a perfectly fine, even cheap, price for a dual processor MDD. It should still have the same 167MHz system bus if you ever want to drop in the dual 1.42GHz processor card. I've seen even PCI G4s and Digital Audios going for about $80.
