Like every material object in this world, the Macbook Pro must suffer some degree of price inflation. There is no way the materials they use, and in mass quantities, justify the reason for such an enormous price. Therefore just as you were to talk down the price of a car, would doing so to an apple employee have the same outcome? I guess I am asking can you negotiate a price for Macs and actually get a discount? They can and do cost as much as a new (Mac Pro fully upgraded) or used (Every other mac) car.

No, just as you can't haggle the price at walmart and Best Buy, the Apple Store doesn't negotiate pricing. Why would they need to? You obviously have a Mac in mind, and you can't get another brand of Mac computer.

Doubt it. But the price for Mac is worth what you get in my opinion. Mac OSx is simply beautiful.

I know what you mean. My mom left her Intel Compaq Laptop of 1.67ghz for my old eMac 1.25ghz and has never been happier. Where her old laptop will freeze up and suffer trying to play youtube and aol video this computer doesn't seem to have a problem. Even facebook videos are smooth. She loves the Interface, dock, and Camino is her favorite web browser.

No, no negotiating.

and btw what kind of new car costs as much as a mac pro? idk about you but all my cars cost much much more than any reasonable mac pro config.

What used cars besides 1990 honda civics and other POS's cost as much as any other mac?

A fully maxed out Mac Pro is $19,336 (if you preload all the software and accessories available it's $22,873). Although most people's cars cost more than this, there definitely are cars that cost this much, and even several thousand less, so his statement is accurate that a Mac can cost as much as a new car.

You're kidding right?
$19000.
So what? I can do that to any computers. For example, Alienware, Dell, HP, etc.
Put all SSD, max ram, softwares, it'll just be as expensive.
So why are you only comparing Mac to a car while other brands are the same?

And unless you're a video hollywood produce, you're stupid to buy a $19k Mac.

A fully max to the max MacBook Pro 17" is $5371 with screens and everything.

There's no point in discussing the reasons for Apple's pricing as this is pointless and you'll only end up with a never ending thread that goes round in circles. Unfortunately, Apple's prices are fixed unless you qualify for a higher education discount. If not, try their resellers, refurbs, or as already suggested, ebay, craigslist etc. otherwise save up if you still can't afford it. :)

Prices are set. Only one company produces Macs, and that's Apple, as opposed to every HP/Dell/Acer out there. If prices are this high it's because people agree to buy them at that sum.

Well lets see, I could spend $2199 on a new Macbook Pro 15 inch 2.2 or I can spend $200 dollars less on a lovely Mercedes-Benz 190e for sale down the street in my neighborhood. A MERCEDES-BENZ IS NOT A POS LIKE HONDA AND ALL OTHER JAP CARS or even BMW's.

You can absolutely negotiate on price in best buy.

On certain items you can. Some items (ie computers) don't have any profit margin so they can't deal on them. On higher profit margin items they can deal. They can actually keep dropping the price until it reaches a certain profit % and then requires a manager override to drop the price further.

How do I know? Ex-Best Buy employee.

Well I suppose if the model where to be updated you could by the floor model for a discount but who wants a mac that's been used on display for everyone to touch?

You can price haggle at best buy, i used to work there. However, when it came to Apple products, there is very little markup so haggling a brand new macbook pro will be difficult. You have a better chance haggling an open item macbook or if they have any older clearance models.

How many FPS is the MB 190e pulling?

Just a point of reference: I picked up a new in box MBP 15 inch MC723 (the one that retails for 2199 + tax) off ebay for net $1635.

My buddy snagged a new MBP MC721 (the one that retails for 1799 + tax) off ebay for net $1350.

And finally, I bought my parents a new MC700 (base 13 inch, 1199 + tax) for $915.

The bay is your "haggling" friend.

So if it's nib, can you get AppleCare? Square trade? Got any tips, cuz the prices are nowhere near that in the us on eBay. Maybe you came across some stolen goods by accident?

But you can get freebies thrown in...sometimes.

I've successfully negotiated n camera gear and av gear there, never bought a computer there.

A Macbook Pro doesn't have a sunroof, or leather seating for that matter. A Macbook Pro can't drive you to work can it?

Also, Mercedes-Benz 190e Happens to be one of the most reliable Mercedes-Benz, having been the last over-engineered Mercedes. It also has alot of features that basline 2000+ model years don't have.

I'm obsessed with Mercedes-Benz so you betta watchyoself... word. :D
