So I don't need any of the processing power of an octo, let alone a quad. I just have the extra components (monitors, HDs, etc) as I am selling my PC box to get a mac pro.

I found the business discount of 1899. Now 8 cores is too much, but I think the price is "worth it" because I can't find an older quad for less than this. If they are less than 1899, then they are ~1500, out of warranty and have a measly 7300gt card. For 400, I would rather get the octo and call it good for the next 5 years.

Stupid to keep the 2.8 x 8 or should still try to find an older mac pro?

I don't want a hackintosh, I just want a computer that works and I don't have to dicker with. I also want to use large HD's as I rip most movies and I already own 2 monitors.
