printer from apple store problem

ok, so i got the hp photosmart c3180 for free with my new macbook, and i brought it to school, tried to get it all set up, but the printer cartiges won't go in. is anyone else having this problem, do you know how to fix it?

basically they just won't "snap" into place, so they are just loosely there.

I guessing that you are not properly inserting the cartridges.

that WAS the problem, but now paper and cardtriges are properly installed and it's still not working

Can you specify a bit more please. Does the Mac recognize the printer? Have you made all the connections, power usb etc.
