Printer Issues

I have an HP Laserjet Professional P1102 printer that I am using with my Macbook Pro circa 2011, Sierra 10.12.6. When I insert the printer cable into either of the USB ports I am getting an error message that says "the disc you inserted was not readable by this computer." I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer with no results. Anybody have any idea what can be done to rectify this? Thank you!

Odd.

I would try a different USB cable first.
